Q: How often should I have my boiler serviced?

A: For your own safety and peace of mind it is recommended that any gas or oil fired boiler should be serviced by a reputable and qualified engineer at least once every 12 months.

Q: Why do I need the boiler checked that frequently?

A: The flueways on an unserviced oil or gas fired boiler can become blocked with a build up of residue from combustion, for example soot, sulpher, ash or the like.

In the case of a low level discharge flue things like ivy, brambles or other vegetation can grow into the outlet, causing a blockage.

A blocked flue allows carbon monoxide gas to fill your room with poisonous fumes.

These fumes are odourless - you can't see them, taste them or smell them, so you don't know that they're even there. They are deadly and can severely injure or kill - do you really want to put your family at risk?

Q: How can I tell if an engineer is qualified?

A: You should only have your boiler inspected and serviced by a CORGI or OFTEC registered and qualified engineer. These engineers have been trained to Government legislation and approved codes of practice to operate safely and in a professional manner.  Thus ensuring that your home and family are safe.

You should ALWAYS ask for identification to ensure the person is qualified for the job they are doing.
